On August 27th, BYD announced that its lithium project in Chile has not yet been undecided and will continue to negotiate with Chilean authorities.
In April 2023, BYD was granted preferential access to lithium carbonate produced by SQM in Chile, providing raw materials for a factory that plans to start producing LFP for cathode materials by the end of 2025.
BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke said that the terms have not been finalized and the production time will be postponed. She stated that the company is still in negotiations with the local government and the decision-making power now lies in the hands of the government.
