The carrier "MACOMA" arrived at the Zhangzhou LNG terminal in Longjiao Operation Area of Houshigang District of Xiamen Port, South China's Fujian Province on May 21 with 66,000 tonnes of LNG, marking the official operation of the first new LNG terminal in China this year, according to open sources.
The terminal, affiliated to PipeChina, has three 160,000 cubic meters storage tanks in its first phase which allows the facility to handle up to 3 million t/y of LNG, and is also equipped with a LNG berth with a maximum capacity of 270,000 cubic meters, in addition to gasification unit and transportation pipeline.
Zhenhua Oil is said to be the buyer of this cargo. After the cargo is unloaded, it will be primarily sold via pipeline, and the sales of LNG are expected to be achieved in late June or early July.
Before that, CNOOC Fujian LNG terminal is the only terminal in Fujian Province, with a receiving capacity of 6.30 million t/y, including six 160,000 cubic meters LNG storage tanks and a maximum capacity of 215,000 cubic meters LNG berth, according to OilChem. The terminal imported a total of 1.63 million tonnes of LNG in the first five months of 2024, a year-on-year increase of 47.06%, bolstered by recovery demand and lowering import costs.

The commissioning of the new terminal will be possible to lower the gas costs in Fujian province, which is beneficial for the increase in LNG consumption in the province.
