Domestic iron ore market edged up in North China but firmed in South area in the week ended Mar 12. Enquiry jumped a lot on the picking up market recently, yet still with weak transactions being heard. Well, market resources seemed to be a little bit tight, hence miners were optimistic on the future market.

Analysis of China iron ore imports in 2009
The statistics of Customs show in 2009 China’s iron ore fines and concentrates imports reached record high of 630mlt, about 41.6% higher than 2008. But the total imported value dropped 17.4%, posting at $50.14 billion with the average prices of $79.9/t, about 41.7% lower than a year earlier.

Baltic freight prices rise on China steel surge
The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index .BADI, which tracks rates to ship dry commodities, and the capesize market rose again on Thursday on strong Chinese demand, brokers said.
